Not all Ohio moms and babies have equitable access to opportunities for long-term health and wellness. In fact, only five states have a higher Black infant mortality rate than Ohio, and despite a 10% decline in Ohio’s overall infant mortality rate since 2009, Ohio’s Black-white infant mortality disparity increased by 26% during the same time period. Institutional racism and inequitable access to critical resources and health services before, during, and after pregnancy persist and are contributing to poor maternal and infant health outcomes, especially for Black and Brown women and their children. Maternal mortality is rising in Ohio also, and research shows that many of these deaths are preventable, taking place often after pregnancy when Medicaid postpartum coverage ends. Ensuring that all women have access to adequate health care is essential for laying a healthy foundation for their children. Join the Ohio Legislative Children’s Caucus to discuss pervasive inequities in infant and maternal health and how Ohio can utilize Medicaid as a critical tool to increase the safety and vitality of all moms and babies in our state.

Session #1: Effective Learning

Effective learning is critical to the development of young children. Participants who attend this training will be able to describe effective learning through play and will explore a variety of strategies that will support children’s learning experiences.

Session #2: Red/Green Choices Behavior Management                                  

Early childhood professionals who attend this training will be introduced to identifying strategies to use with young children to address behavior and will have the opportunity to practice a variety of engaging instructional strategies that support management of preschool children.

Session #3: Calming Down and Kindness in the Classroom                                                                          

Successful coping skills and conflict resolution in early childhood contribute to a child’s long term quality of life. Participants who attend this workshop will explore and identify a variety of strategies that will foster critical skills in young children.

Session #4: Grow Happy Kids                                                                                            

For some children, learning about healthy eating and exercise can be very challenging. In this workshop participants will explore like scientists and explain several strategies for making healthy lifestyles with young children easier and more successful.

Join us as we begin planning our strategies that support nutrition and physical activity opportunities for young children and their families in Cuyahoga County.   This virtual strategic planning meeting will challenge us to consider ways to think about our work to have the biggest impact on our community.

Be My Neighbor Day is all about being a caring neighbor and supporting the families in our neighborhood.

Social Emotional Health Strategic Planning Meeting

Following the event, you are invited to participate in our Making this Moment a Movement 5-day Virtual Advocacy Challenge where we you will commit 5 minutes of your time each day for 5 days as we provide you easy opportunities to elevate your voice and influence statewide policy. We are calling on parents, caregivers, early childhood professionals, community leaders, policymakers, business owners, advocates and more to share their stories at the Statehouse and urge legislators to invest in the future of all young children in Ohio. Together, we will make this moment a movement!

Nutrition and Physical Activity Strategic Planning Meeting
